bow hunting from a stand

I seem to have a slight problem. I sighted my bow in on the ground. Have no problem hitting the target. Im using a rangefinder without ARC. When Im up in the treestand(17 ft high) I use the same rangefinder to seek out yardage points. I missed 3 deer this weekend- 18 yrder, 25 yrder, and a 37 yarder. The arrow fell about a foot or two short on all misses. Can someone explain whats going on?

Re: bow hunting from a stand

I am not sure why you would be shooting short.  When shooting from an elevated position, like a tree stand, you will typically need to shoot a little low, depending on the angle of the shot.  At 37 yards, there shouldn't have been any noticable difference in where you should have aimed.  I don't mean to insult you, but I find most problems can be solved looking first at the easiest solution first, are you sure you are using the right site pin?

Good luck.

Bob

earearRe: bow hunting from a stand

I have a fixed pin sight. I shot fine last year. The only thing change from last year to this year is the arrow size and I have already found that didnt make any differance shooting from the ground. Dead on even at 60 yrds.

Re: earearRe: bow hunting from a stand

Do you use a peep sight? Are you bending properly at the waist, or improperly from your upper body? Are you dropping your arm at the shot to watch arrow flight? Try experimenting with lower elevations in small increments. Start at five feet and move slowly up and note the results. That's all I can come up with. Good luck!
