Keep Your Eye On The Target
by Bill Giffin
| I find that by
keeping your eye on the target, it helps to naturally get the arrow to
the target by forcing you to concentrate on that one point. It is
one of the most important fundamentals as it helps you watch what you
are doing. When you come back to your anchor, with a smooth draw,
keeping your eye on the target, it becomes instinctive, more natural.
The way to start to see this in action is to shoot at about 10 yards. Concentrate on the target when you draw the string, bring your middle finger to the corner of your mouth for a good anchor, then allow a smooth, fast release, keeping your hand on your face. Your bow arm should remain firm, this will give you a good follow-thru. But it all begins with keeping your eye on the target. Other fundamentals you will see in future articles are; the stance, anchoring, the release, follow through, traditional aiming methods, point of aim, split vision as well as the different types of bows and arrows. We will also discuss the differences between traditional and primitive bows, how to choose the right bow and arrows for you. |
The history of archery goes back into the prehistoric era, and the stick and string have a proud heritage, a heritage that we can pass down to future generations of archers by keeping it fun and safe for everyone to enjoy. This column will cover many different subjects, from shooting styles to traditional hunts and world class trophies that were shot with traditional equipment, archery fact and fiction and much, much more. bowhuntingINFO.com will have this series of articles for the traditional corner in hopes of answering some frequently asked questions and our goal is to give novice as well as veteran archers something new or different to think about when they shoot or practice. The basic fundamentals of archery are easy to learn. The mastering of them are why we all practice so hard. |
